Free BCaBA practice exam: 60 explained questions across all nine sections

This free BCaBA® (Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst) practice exam is 60 original questions written to the Test Content Outline (6th ed.), spread across all nine sections in proportion to the exam’s 150 scored items, with a note on every option. Work it untimed one section at a time, or start a paced run for a mock at exam speed.

82 s a question: pacing, not BACB scoring

The handbook allows 4 hours for 175 questions, about 82 seconds each, tutorial included. At that pace these 60 take 82:00. Pacing arithmetic over this set only: it says nothing about how the BACB scores the exam.

Pacing a mock: where 82 minutes comes from

Under the 6th-edition outline, per the current BCaBA Handbook (updated June 2026), the exam gives you 4 hours for 175 questions. The paced run applies that rate to 60.

Exam pace, applied to 60 trials
  1. Exam time4 h = 240 min = 14,400 s
  2. Exam questions150 scored + 25 unscored = 175
  3. Per question14,400 s / 175 = 82.3 s, about 82 s
  4. This set60 × 82 s = 4,920 s

82:00 on the clock for 60 trials

Pacing arithmetic over this set only, not how the BACB scores the exam.

The 4 hours include the tutorial and terms screens, so the real budget is a little under 82 seconds. Answer everything: the 25 unscored items are mixed in and not marked. At 0:00 the record opens and answers lock until Restart; blank trials then mean too long on items you could not place.

How the 60 trials are proportioned to the outline

Sixty is 40% of 150, so each section gets 40% of its scored items, rounded. Section G, Behavior-Change Procedures, is the heaviest at 9 trials; A and D are the lightest at 4.

Scored counts per the BCaBA Test Content Outline (6th ed.).

Reading your score by section

The trial sheet above each question has one cell per trial, like a discrete-trial data sheet: an emerald plus for a correct answer, a minus in a dashed cell for an error, an outline on the trial you are on. Tap any cell to jump to it.

Beside it, a cumulative record steps up one unit per correct answer and runs flat on every error, under a dashed all-correct aim line. A long flat stretch is a run of misses; reading it is the skill Section C tests with cumulative records (C.8).

After the last trial, the record lists correct answers per section with the percentage of those you tried and a bar. Small sections swing hard: in Section A, one miss out of 4 moves the figure 25 points.

What the record does mirror is the failing score report, which shows percent correct by content area. Use both the same way: to choose the next section to study.

Working through your misses

Review misses takes you to your first error; the dashed cells show the rest.

  • Read the note on the option you picked, then the one on the key. The difference between them is what to study.
  • Log the section and topic of each miss. Three misses on one topic is a study session; one is a flashcard.
  • Rework the misses the next day, cold, after a Restart. A miss answered correctly twice running comes off the list.

Where people stall: rereading an explanation until it feels familiar. Familiar is not the same as choosing correctly with 82 seconds on the clock.

BCaBA exam questions are confidential: what that means for practice

The BACB keeps its exam items confidential and states in the BCaBA Handbook that it cannot endorse study materials. No practice test, free or paid, contains the items you will see at the test center; a site promising the live items offers something the BACB does not release.

The 60 here are original practice questions in the exam’s shape: four options, exactly one correct, every option explained. The exam itself is taken only at Pearson VUE test centers or on US military bases, never online.

What else to practice with

Go deeper on your weakest section next. The Section C and G guides carry 12 trials each that are not in this set; the other seven sections are mapped on the outline guide (formerly called the task list).

If test day is months away, the exam page covers booking and attempts, and how to qualify sets out coursework and fieldwork under the rules dated to when you apply.

FAQ

  1. 01How many questions are on the BCaBA exam?

175: 150 scored and 25 unscored, not marked, in 4 hours including the tutorial, under the 6th-edition outline per the current BCaBA Handbook (updated June 2026). This page gives you 60 at the same pace.

  2. 02What score do I need to pass the BCaBA exam?

There is no published score. Results are pass or fail at the test center, with the standard set by a modified Angoff study. Read your practice record as a map of weak sections, not a forecast.

  3. 03Is there a free BCaBA practice exam?

Yes: the 60 trials at the top of this page, with no account. Nothing is stored, so finish a run in one sitting. Three more sample trials sit on the home page, three on the exam page, and the C and G guides add 12 each.

  4. 04How difficult is the BCaBA exam?

60% of first-time candidates passed in 2025, per the BACB pass-rate data. Length adds to it: about 82 seconds a question for 4 hours, which is what the paced run trains.

  5. 05Are BCaBA practice tests like the real exam?

In format they can be: four options, one correct answer, items weighted across nine sections. In content, none has the exam’s items, because the BACB keeps them confidential.

  6. 06How should I use a BCaBA mock exam?

In two passes: untimed, one section chip at a time, until no section stands out; then the paced run, all 60 mixed in 82 minutes. Rework the misses the next day, cold.
